Which Hole Size Blocks Midges?

Midges are very small insects, and they can pass through many types of mesh that are designed to block larger insects such as flies and mosquitoes. However, there are specific mesh sizes that are effective at blocking midges. In general, a mesh size of 18-20 holes per inch is adequate for blocking midges. This size is small enough to prevent midges from passing through while still allowing air and light to flow through the mesh. This range gives holes that are around 1mm.

For extra fine midge protection we recommend something with twice as many holes, and as such a hole size of around 0.4mm. This product is ideal for that purpose, along with our stainless steel and brass options (if those metals work better for your requirement).

What Type Area Would Be Best For This Mesh?

This mesh is not a fabric. The wires are too thick.

How Do I Cut Ultra Fine Midge Mesh?

Cutting fine woven wire mesh can be tricky as the wires are very thin and may require special tools to ensure a clean cut. Here are some steps you can follow:

1. Determine the size and shape of the cut you need to make on the wire mesh.
2. Use a straightedge or ruler to mark the cut line on the wire mesh. You can use a marker or a pencil to make the mark.
3. Use a pair of wire cutters or diagonal cutters to cut the wire mesh along the marked line. Be sure to use a sharp and precise tool to avoid damaging the wire mesh.
4. If you find it difficult to cut the mesh with wire cutters or diagonal cutters, you can try using a pair of scissors or a utility knife. Be careful when using a knife as it can be dangerous if not used properly. We would always use scissors to cut this mesh.
5. Once you have made the cut, use a pair of pliers to bend the cut edge back and forth to remove any burrs or sharp edges.

Can I  Fold This Mesh?

Yes, but again it is not a fabric. It will fold and hold its shape.
