This top quality aluminium mesh provides excellent fly screening for behind any soffit vent. Aluminium mesh is light and easy to cut, making it an ideal soffit vent mesh. This is ideally used to block air-bricks, soffit vents etc for insect deterrent. This mesh is light but it does prevent birds and insects from gaining entry into holes, nooks and crannies. The most common use for this light mesh is as a door screen fly mesh.

If you’re looking for a durable and effective way to keep insects out of your home or property, consider aluminium insect mesh of the soffit vent variety. This mesh is available in a variety of widths, meaning you can get exactly what you need for your particular situation.

Made from 0.28mm wire, it has holes that measure 1.13 x 1.31mm and 18 x 16 holes per linear inch, ensuring even the tiniest of bugs are kept at bay. And because it’s made from tough and long-lasting aluminium, you can be sure it will last for years to come. So don’t let little creepy crawlies keep you up at night; invest in some high-quality insect mesh made just for you!

FAQs For This Window Screen Product

Why Do Homes Have Vents?

UK homes are typically equipped with vents to help maintain healthy indoor air quality and prevent moisture buildup. Here are some of the reasons why vents are important in UK homes:

  1. Moisture control: Vents help to control moisture levels inside the home. This is because they allow air to circulate and prevent moisture from becoming trapped. This can help to prevent mould and mildew growth, which can be a health hazard and cause damage to the home. This is why the vent mesh needs to have a high open area % to allow for good airflow.
  2. Health and safety: They help to remove pollutants and allergens from the indoor air, which can be important for maintaining good indoor air quality and preventing respiratory problems. They also help to prevent the build-up of harmful gases, such as carbon monoxide. Again, the higher the airflow the better to achieve this benefit.
  3. Temperature regulation: Vents can help to regulate indoor temperature by allowing air to circulate and preventing hot or cold spots from forming.
  4. Building regulations: Building regulations in the UK require that homes have adequate ventilation to ensure that they are safe and healthy for occupants. This means that homes must have vents in certain areas, such as bathrooms and kitchens, to ensure that moisture and pollutants are properly vented to the outside.

For this reason vents are a vital component in modern building design. The downside is that they can allow unwanted pests to gain access to your property.

Which Insects Will Come In Through Vents?

There are several types of insects can get in through vents in UK homes, including:

  1. Flies: Flies are attracted to food and can enter the home through vents in the kitchen or other areas where food is prepared or stored. As well as our aluminium mesh, we also have a stainless steel insect mesh option.
  2. Wasps and bees: These insects may enter the home through vents in the attic or other areas where they build their nests.
  3. Ants: Ants can enter the home through vents and other small openings in search of food. We would recommend a smaller hole mesh to block ants. Our mosquito mesh specifications would work for this purpose.
  4. Spiders: Spiders can enter the home through vents and other small openings, and may build webs in the vent itself.
  5. Moths: Moths are attracted to light and can enter the home through vents in the roof or other areas where light is visible.
  6. Cockroaches: Cockroaches are attracted to warm, humid environments and can enter the home through vents in the bathroom or other areas where moisture is present.

How Do I Use Aluminium Insect Soffit Vent Mesh?

To use aluminium insect mesh to block vents, you can follow these steps:

  1. Measure the size of the vent that you want to cover, and cut the aluminium mesh to the appropriate size using wire cutters or heavy-duty scissors. Select the correct width from the dropdown options. We offer 50mm up to 200mm roll widths.
  2. Clean the area around the vent to remove any debris or dirt.
  3. Secure the mesh over the vent using a staple gun or screws and washers. Be sure to choose a fastening method that is appropriate for the material you are attaching the mesh to.
  4. If you are using a staple gun, start at one corner of the mesh and work your way around the perimeter, stapling the mesh to the surface every few inches. Be sure to pull the mesh taut as you go to prevent sagging. This is a light mesh, so it needs to be kept taut and have a strong support structure.
  5. If you are using screws and washers, drill holes in the surface where you want to attach the mesh, and then screw the washers onto the screws to create a backing that will hold the mesh in place.
  6. Once the mesh is secured in place, use scissors to trim any excess material. We would always use scissors to cut this material.
  7. Finally, inspect the mesh periodically to make sure there are no gaps or holes that insects could use to gain access.

It is a simple process. By following it you can retain maximum airflow, while blocking out unwanted winged invaders.
