The relatively large 2.48mm aperture requires thick wire to maintain structural integrity, making this mesh exceptionally strong and durable.

Black metal mesh, or blackened steel wire mesh, is a type of metal mesh that is sometimes used as a material for beehive floors. Here are some reasons why black metal mesh is a good choice for a beehive floor:
Wire mesh can be used as a method of controlling and reducing the varroa mite population in beehives.
The mites are small parasites that attach themselves to bees and feed on their haemolymph, which can weaken the bee’s immune system and cause damage to their development.
By using wire mesh, beekeepers can separate the brood chamber of the hive from the rest of the hive, preventing the mites from reaching the developing larvae. This is done by placing a wire mesh floor in the hive between the brood chamber and the bottom board. The mites will fall through the wire mesh and out of the hive, reducing the overall mite population.
This method is known as the “varroa mite drop” and can be an effective way to manage varroa mites without the use of chemicals.
