Description
Fox Proof Chicken Wire
25mm fox proof chicken wire is one of the most popular types of garden mesh. We keep our stock volumes high, meaning that it is available for immediate dispatch off the shelf.
This chicken wire is made of mild steel that has been hot dipped in a zinc layer coating for a galvanised finish which protects it from outdoor elements. As it has zinc coating it is perfect for appliances such as chicken coops and rabbit runs, garden fencing, fruit cages and much more.
Galvanised chicken mesh is normally a metallic grey colour but it can also come in a green PVC coating in the same mesh specs, this is to give extra protection and reinforcement for even more longer lasting use; but mainly it is brilliant for camouflage. This is available through our ‘Chicken Wire’ section in various hole sizes.
Please note that ‘Galvanised Steel’ and ‘Galvanized Steel’ refer to the exact same finish. This mesh netting type is not available in stainless steel.
Chicken Mesh
Galvanised fox proof chicken wire is used the world over as garden netting due to it’s economical price, light-weight but long-lasting properties and it’s versatility.
This mesh has a 25mm (1″ inch) hexagonal shaped hole, which will prevent birds from entering and damaging vegetable patch crops including fruit bushes, salads and newly planted seedlings.
All of our mesh netting is simple to use. We suggest that you use u-nails to attach to the timber fencing posts that you make up fruit and veg cages. This hexagonal wire mesh is produced with hot dipped galvanised steel. Galvanising the steel protects the steel metal from rusting and increases the life of the roll for outdoor use

What Makes This Wire Mesh Suitable For Preventing Foxes?
Our 25mm galvanised steel chicken wire has been specifically designed with fox prevention in mind. Here’s why it’s suitable:
- Optimal Hole Size: The 25mm hexagonal hole size is small enough to prevent foxes from getting their heads or paws through, discouraging them from trying to breach the barrier.
- Durable Material: Made of galvanised steel, this wire is robust and sturdy, ensuring it can withstand the force exerted by a fox attempting to break through.
- Rust Resistance: The galvanisation process provides a protective zinc coating, ensuring longevity even in outdoor environments, so the wire remains strong and intact over time, even in the face of curious or persistent foxes.
- Burrowing Deterrence: When installed correctly, with part of the wire buried underground, it acts as a deterrent against foxes that might try to dig under a fence or enclosure.
What Other Hole Sizes Are Available In Your ‘Chicken Wire‘ Section?
That is a great question. We offer all of the below options:

- Popular for: Smallest animals and birds, providing the highest level of exclusion for creatures like small rodents and tiny bird species.
- 25mm available in both Green PVC and Galvanised Steel.

- Popular for: Medium to larger birds and perfect for preventing pests from garden beds. Its size allows for good visibility and airflow while still providing adequate protection.
Can I Cut The Wire Easily If Needed?
Yes, our 25mm galvanised steel chicken wire can be cut when necessary. Use wire cutters or heavy-duty scissors to achieve the best results. For your project’s needs, galvanised steel can be shaped and cut to fit specific areas or to customize its size for your needs. It is durable, but malleable enough to be shaped and cut.
Is The Wire Resistant To Rust?
Yes, our 25mm chicken wire is made of galvanised steel, which undergoes a process where the steel is coated with a protective layer of zinc. The zinc coating acts as a barrier, making the wire highly resistant to rust and corrosion even when exposed to outdoor elements for an extended period of time. As a result, your fencing or enclosure projects will last for a long time and be durable.
How Effective Is This Wire Against Other Predators Besides Foxes?
The 25mm galvanised steel chicken wire is primarily designed to deter foxes. Its durable design and 25mm hexagonal holes also make it effective against other predators, including raccoons (not in the UK), badgers, large birds, and stray cats.
The galvanised steel construction ensures strength, while the hole size is small enough to prevent most medium-sized predators from getting through. If you want the wire to be as effective as possible against all potential threats, however, it must be securely anchored to the ground and installed without gaps.
Assess your specific environment and potential predator challenges to determine whether additional precautions are necessary.
