This 1.31mm hole heavy-duty galvanised steel insect screen mesh, made from 0.28mm wire, is an ideal solution for keeping bugs and insects at bay while maintaining good airflow and visibility. The light wires relative to the hole size make it perfect for this purpose.

Galvanised steel insect screen mesh is particularly effective due to its robust construction and corrosion resistance. The zinc-dipped galvanised finish protects it from the elements, ensuring longevity and reliability. This mesh can be bent and formed by hand, though it is recommended to use gloves for safe handling.

Despite its strength, it offers a large open area, making it an excellent choice for filtration or as a barrier.

Description

Galvanised Steel Insect Screen Mesh

1.31mm hole heavy duty galvanised steel insect screen mesh made from 0.28mm wire. This is an insect screen due to the light wires in relation to the hole size. This allows for good airflow and visibility, whilst stopping bugs and insects.

Insect screen made from galvanised steel is ideal for keeping bugs out.

Below is a breakdown of the key characteristics of this galvanised insect screen mesh:

  • Bending & Forming – Good. It is possible to bend this metal by hand. Use gloves to handle this mesh
  • Corrosion Resistance – Good. We produce this from mild steel that has been zinc-dipped, which gives it the galvanised finish that protects it from the elements
  • Filtration – Good. This mesh has a large open area, consequently it is popularly used as a large filter or barrier
  • Welding – Possible. Galvanised metal, when properly prepared, can be welded in the same manner as uncoated steel
  • Painting – Poor. It’s best to paint plain steel since it doesn’t have a coating

There are many reasons to use galvanised steel mesh for your mesh requirement. Above all, it allows for great airflow while providing strength and structure.

The Mesh Company has an enormous range of wire mesh products.  We truly are an industry leader among suppliers of weld mesh and woven wire materials. Mesh Specification

  • Mesh Count = 16 holes per linear inch. The amount of holes measured against a straight line inch
  • Holes / Wires Per Square Inch = 256 holes per square inch. The amount of holes per linear inch squared
  • Wire Thickness = 0.28mm. The thickness of each wire. The structure is thicker than this where two wires meet
  • Hole Size / Aperture = 1.31mm. This is the square hole size from wire to wire
  • Open Area % = 68%. The amount of the mesh that is open. The higher this number the more open a mesh is. This is a very high open area%
  • Cut With – We cut this mesh with tin snips. We suggest that you do the same

It is of interest to anyone who needs a light mesh for any application. You would be able to fold this mesh by hand very easily. Once bent it would hold its shape.

Use ‘No More Nails’ or similar for affixing this mesh to airbricks and other vents.

FAQs For This Insect Screen Product

What Is An Insect Screen?

Galvanised steel woven wire insect screen mesh is a type of screen mesh made from galvanised steel wire. Galvanizing is a process of coating steel with a protective layer of zinc, which helps to prevent rust and corrosion. The galvanised steel wire is woven into a mesh pattern to create a durable, fine mesh screen that can be used to keep insects out of buildings while allowing air to circulate.

Galvanised steel woven wire insect screen mesh is a popular choice for insect screens because it is strong and long-lasting. The mesh is typically available in various mesh sizes (the number of wires per inch) and wire diameters, which can be selected depending on the specific application. The mesh size can determine the level of insect protection provided, while the wire diameter can affect the strength and durability of the mesh.

How To Make Insect Screen Frame

To make an insect screen frame using galvanised steel woven wire mesh, you can follow these steps:

  1. Determine the size of the screen frame you need. Measure the area where you want to install the insect screen, such as a window or door.
  2. Purchase the materials. You will need galvanised steel woven wire mesh, aluminium or PVC frame material, a spline roller, spline, and corner connectors.
  3. Cut the frame material to size. Use a saw to cut the aluminium or PVC frame material to the length and width you need. Make sure to cut four pieces that will fit together to form the frame.
  4. Assemble the frame. Use corner connectors to join the four pieces of the frame material together. Make sure the corners are square and the frame is sturdy.
  5. Cut the mesh to size. Cut the galvanised steel woven wire mesh to the size of the frame, leaving a little extra on each side.
  6. Attach the mesh to the frame. Lay the mesh on top of the frame and use a spline roller to press the mesh into the frame. Make sure the mesh is taut and there are no wrinkles.
  7. Secure the mesh with spline. Use a spline roller to push spline (a rubber cord) into the groove around the edge of the frame, over the mesh. This will hold the mesh in place.
  8. Trim the excess mesh. Use a sharp utility knife to trim the excess mesh along the edge of the spline.
  9. Install the insect screen. Install the insect screen into the window or door frame using screws or other appropriate fasteners.

What Do You Use To Cut This Mesh?

We would use standard kitchen scissors to cut this mesh to size. Simply line it up in front of you and cut along the aperture. Be careful not to cut across the wires as this can leave a sharp edge.
