Our 19mm galvanised steel thatched roof wire mesh is a widely sought-after garden mesh, always in stock for immediate dispatch. Recognised globally as a cost-effective, lightweight, and durable garden netting solution, its 19mm hexagonal design is ideal for guarding vegetable patches against birds. Easy to install using u-nails and timber fencing posts, this hot-dipped galvanised mesh offers longevity, especially outdoors. The green PVC coating further enhances its lifespan and camouflages it seamlessly.

This mesh is perfect for thatched roofs, deterring vermin and birds, offering extra structure in challenging weather, and prolonging the thatch’s life. While it can be seamlessly attached using a twister and spars, many professionals also recommend copper wire netting for its added advantage of reducing lichen and moss growth on thatched structures, ensuring long-term roof protection.

Description

Galvanised Steel Thatched Roof Wire Mesh

19mm galvanised steel thatched roof wire mesh is an extremely popular type of garden mesh. We keep our stock volumes high, meaning that it is available for immediate dispatch off the shelf.

Galvanised chicken wire is used the world over as garden netting due to it’s economical price, light-weight but long-lasting properties and it’s versatility.

This high quality mesh has a 19mm hexagonal shaped hole, which will prevent birds from entering and damaging vegetable patch crops including fruit bushes, salads and newly planted seedlings.

All of our mesh netting is simple to use. We suggest that you use u-nails to attach to the timber fencing posts that you make up fruit and veg cages. This hexagonal wire mesh is produced with hot dipped galvanised steel. Galvanising the steel protects the steel metal from rusting and increases the life of the roll for outdoor use.

Protect your thatch for years to come. The green PVC coating gives extra protection and reinforcement for even more longer lasting use; but mainly it is brilliant for camouflage. This i

Netting For Thatch

This 19mm wire mesh has the following characteristics making it ideal for being applied to thatched roofs:

  • Deters vermin and birds from ridges of straw
  • Also deters vermin and birds from straw roofs
  • Provides additional structure to reserve thatch in areas where weather is a problem
  • Helps to maintain the lifespan of the thatch

The wire mesh can be applied by fixed twisting the seams together. This is achieved by using a twister and holding it is in place with spars or wire

Copper wire netting is also often used as this gives additional benefits by reducing lichen growth on thatched houses. Copper mesh will prevent moss from forming. Using copper mesh is something that many professionals recommend because it makes it possible to provide long term resistance to moss. This is exactly what thatched roofs need.

FAQs For This Product

Why Use Galvanised Steel Chicken Wire With A Thatched Roof?

Galvanised steel mesh is often used in thatched roofs as a fire protection measure.

Thatched roofs are made of natural materials such as straw, reeds, or palm leaves, which are highly combustible and can easily catch fire if exposed to flames or sparks. To reduce the risk of fire in thatched roofs, our galvanised steel mesh is often installed as an underlayer, between the thatch and the roof deck.

The steel mesh helps prevent fire from spreading by acting as a barrier to flames and sparks. Additionally, the mesh can help to hold the thatch in place, preventing it from sliding or shifting in windy conditions. This is a little like when chicken wire is used in model making.

The galvanised coating on the steel mesh provides additional protection against rust and corrosion, helping to extend the lifespan of the roof. It also helps to prevent the mesh from degrading due to exposure to the elements, which could compromise its ability to provide fire protection.

What Are The Downsides?

Whereas chicken wire mesh is an excellent material to use as a structure in thatched roofs, there are reasons to check first. These are some potential flaws or drawbacks to consider:

  1. Durability: While galvanised steel is resistant to rust and corrosion, over time the galvanised coating can wear off, leaving the steel vulnerable to rust and corrosion. This can reduce the lifespan of the wire, potentially compromising its ability to support the thatch.
  2. Installation: Installing chicken wire in a thatched roof can be challenging, as the wire must be carefully secured to prevent it from moving or shifting. Improper installation can compromise the effectiveness of the mesh. We always recommend that this process is carried out by trained experts.
  3. Maintenance: Chicken wire can be difficult to maintain and repair if damaged. In addition, if the wire is not installed properly, it can cause damage to the thatch itself, requiring costly repairs.
  4. Aesthetics: Some people may not like the look of chicken wire in a thatched roof, as it can be visible from certain angles and detract from the natural beauty of the thatch. Correct design is essential to avoid this issue.
  5. Cost: Galvanised steel chicken wire can be more expensive than other types of wire or mesh used in thatched roofs, which can increase the overall cost of the roof. We ensure that our prices are the lowest possible, and we check the markets constantly make sue that our offer is the best.

How Do I Convert 4ft Into mm?

This roll is 4ft in width. 4ft is equivalent to 1200mm, which is the same as 120cm or 1.2 metres.

Can I Cut This Mesh?

Yes it is possible to cut this mesh. We would use standard tin snips for this purpose.
