Description

Rat Wire Mesh

RatMesh is our best selling rat and mouse blocking wire mesh. It blocks both rats and mice, plus other unwanted creatures from gaining entry where they’re not wanted.

Galvanised rat mesh has a wire diameter of a little over 0.6mm and an opening size of 6mm (1/4 inch) to prevent rodents from passing through. The mesh is delivered by the roll and can be cut to size to fit specific areas or applications.

One of the advantages of galvanised rat mesh is that it is relatively affordable and easy to work with, making it a popular choice for DIY projects. It is also durable and can withstand exposure to harsh weather conditions, making it suitable for use in outdoor areas.

FAQs For This Product

Can Rats Chew Through Metal Mesh?

Rats are capable of chewing through many materials, including some types of metal mesh. However, galvanised metal mesh can be a more difficult material for rats to chew through than other materials such as plastic or wood.

The zinc coating on galvanised metal can make it harder for rats to grip and chew through the wire as it created an extra layer of protection for the mesh. In addition, the small openings in the mesh can make it difficult for rats to get a good grip with their teeth. These factors can make galvanised metal mesh a good choice for rodent control in many applications.

However, it’s important to note that rats are highly adaptable and persistent, and may still be able to chew through galvanised metal mesh under certain circumstances. For example, if the mesh is damaged or rusted, it may be easier for rats to chew through therefore it might be ideal to use a more durable, corrosion resistant metal such as stainless steel. Similarly, if the mesh is not properly secured or anchored, rats may be able to create a gap or opening and squeeze through.

Can Rats Climb Wire Mesh?

Rats are known to be skilled climbers, and they may be able to climb wire mesh under certain circumstances. However, the ability of rats to climb wire mesh will depend on several factors, including the size of the mesh, the strength of the wire, and the texture and shape of the surface the mesh is attached to.

In general, rats may be able to climb wire mesh if the mesh has a large enough opening or if the wire is weak or damaged. Rats may also be able to climb mesh that is installed on a smooth or slippery surface, such as plastic or metal.

To prevent rats from climbing wire mesh, it’s important to use a mesh with a small enough opening to prevent them from passing through. A mesh with an opening of 6mm (1/4 inch) or smaller is typically recommended for rat control. It’s also important to use a strong and durable wire that is resistant to damage and corrosion such as this one or stainless steel.

What Works Best To Secure Galvanised Rat Wire Mesh?

Galvanised rat mesh can be secured in several ways, depending on the application and the surface it is being attached to. Here are some options for securing galvanised rat mesh:

  1. Wire ties: Wire ties, also known as zip ties, are a simple and effective way to secure rat mesh to a variety of surfaces. They are easy to install and can be tightened to provide a secure fit. Make sure to use wire ties that are made from a material that is strong enough to support the weight of the mesh.
  2. Staples: Staples can be used to secure rat mesh to wooden surfaces such as framing or sheathing. Use a staple gun to attach the mesh to the surface, making sure to space the staples no more than 6 inches apart to ensure the mesh is secure.
  3. Screws: Screws can be used to attach rat mesh to metal or wooden surfaces. Use a drill or screwdriver to attach the mesh to the surface, making sure to use screws that are long enough to provide a secure fit.
  4. Adhesive: Adhesive can be used to attach rat mesh to smooth surfaces such as metal or plastic. Use a high-strength adhesive that is specifically formulated for use with metal and that can withstand exposure to the elements. We recommend Gorilla Glue as the best adhesive to work with our mesh materials.
  5. Clips: Clips or clamps can be used to attach rat mesh to pipes or other irregularly shaped surfaces. Make sure to use clips that are strong enough to support the weight of the mesh and that can be tightened to provide a secure fit.

How Small A Hole Can A Mouse Get Through?

The size of the hole that a mouse can fit through will depend on the size and species of the mouse. In general, a house mouse can fit through a hole that is larger than 6mm (1/4 inch) in diameter, which is roughly the size of a pencil eraser. This is because mice are able to squeeze their bodies through small openings and gaps by contorting and compressing their bones and organs.

However, it’s important to note that not all mice are the same size. Some species of mice may be slightly larger or smaller than others, and individual mice can vary in size as well. In addition, mice are highly adaptable and can sometimes find creative ways to get through small openings.

To prevent mice from entering a building, it’s important to seal all openings and gaps that are larger than 6mm. This includes gaps around doors and windows, holes in walls, floors or ceilings, and gaps around gutters, pipes or cables. Sealing these openings with caulk, foam, or other materials can help prevent mice from entering and infesting a building.
