Description

Galvanised Perforated Metal Sheet

Galvanised perforated metal sheet grid panel is produced by punching flat galvanised plate with a specific round pattern. The customer’s requirement for metal for cosmetic or application purposes drives this decision.

The galvanised perforated metal sheet is a highly versatile product with a myriad of applications, prominently used in scenarios requiring robust ventilation and filtration. Crafted by precision punching of galvanised plates to create a uniform round hole pattern, this sheeting meets both aesthetic and practical demands. The process of galvanisation provides the metal with a protective zinc coating, significantly enhancing its resistance to corrosion and making it suitable for outdoor or industrial environments.

This metal sheet serves various functions, from acting as a secure barrier against rodents to being a pivotal component in architectural designs. Its utility is broad, encompassing areas like automotive design for grilles, machinery protection guards, ventilation panels in construction, and acoustic panels for noise control.

The specifications of the galvanised perforated metal sheet include a range of hole sizes (apertures) and pitches — the distance from the start of one hole to the next, which also accounts for the gap between holes, allowing for customised airflow and material strength as per the requirements. Available in diverse thicknesses, it caters to different levels of durability and strength needs.

With its functionality, the sheet provides an optimal balance between protection and permeability, making it an excellent choice for projects that demand the integrity of the material and the passage of air or light. Its adaptability and quality make it a fundamental material for industrial applications, commercial ventures, and creative projects alike.

Perforated Steel Sheet

The specifications of this metal mesh grid panel is as follows:

  • Hole Size (Aperture) – various
  • Pitch – various. You can measure the pitch from the start of one hole to the next or the hole size plus the gap between the hole.
  • Thickness – various thicknesses of flat sheet.

Because the holes are punched, it is possible to have a far stronger finished metal product than it would be for the equivalent thickness in woven or welded mesh.

FAQs For This Product

What Can Perforated Metal Sheet Be Used For?

Our customers have used perforated metals for the following applications:

  • Airbrick vent coverings for rodent control
  • Air conditioning guards
  • Bridge and balustrade construction
  • Various structural steel works
  • Automotive repair
  • Various DIY and basic engineering applications

Can Galvanised Steel Perforated Metal Be Painted?

Yes, galvanised steel perforated metal can be painted.

However, it is important to first clean the surface and remove any oils or other contaminants that might interfere with paint adhesion. The surface may also need to be roughened or etched to provide a better surface for the paint to adhere to. Also, please note that the smaller apertures may be clogged by paint. The larger the hole the easier it is to paint.

We recommended that you use a high-quality primer and paint specifically formulated for use on galvanised metal.

Galvanised Steel vs Stainless

Galvanised steel and stainless steel are both commonly used materials for perforated metal. Here are some differences between the two:

  1. Corrosion resistance: Stainless steel perforated metal is highly corrosion-resistant, whereas galvanised steel perforated metal has a layer of zinc coating that provides protection against rust and corrosion but is not as durable as stainless steel.
  2. Strength: Stainless steel is generally stronger than galvanised steel, making stainless steel perforated metal more durable and less likely to deform or bend. It is more expensive to produce as a result.
  3. Appearance: Stainless steel perforated metal has a bright, silvery finish that can be polished to a high shine, while galvanised steel perforated metal has a matte grey finish.
  4. Cost: Stainless steel is generally more expensive than galvanised steel, so perforated metal made from stainless steel is typically more expensive as well.

We suggest galvanised if you have a tight budget, or if resistance to corrosion is less important to for your project.

Galvanised Steel vs Plain Steel

Galvanised steel and plain steel are two different types of steel that can be used to make perforated metal. Here are some differences between the two:

  1. Corrosion resistance: As mentioned above, galvanised steel is coated to protect against corrosion, while plain steel perforated metal is susceptible to rust and corrosion as it has no coating.
  2. Strength: We would advise that both are equally strong.
  3. Appearance: Galvanised steel perforated metal has a matte grey finish due to the zinc coating, while plain steel perforated metal has a dark, blackish-grey appearance. Mild steel also feels rougher to the touch.
  4. Cost: Because of the additional layer, galvanised steel is generally more expensive than plain steel, so perforated metal made from galvanised steel is typically more expensive as well.

Both are extremely popular. Often plain steel is selected as it can more easily be painted or machined.
