50mm Green PVC Chicken Mesh Wire
The Mesh Company Green PVC coated chicken wire is manufactured from galvanised steel wire that is then coated with PVC. Green PVC mesh is especially pleasing to the eye and more subtle in outdoor environments than the galvanised steel equivalent. The coating ensures that the product will have an even longer lifespan and is also a safer option than the standard galvanised mesh for use where animals and pets are involved.
Chicken wire coated with PVC wire is ideal where fence or crop protection is required to be discreet and blend in better in a garden, with a hedge or any grass area. Mesh can also be used at the bottom of tall fences to keep out rabbits and other animals.

Similar to the galvanised chicken wire mesh, our Green PVC garden netting mesh is constructed in a hexagonal shape pattern for maximum reinforcement and can be bent and manipulated into any shape required.
Core Material – Mild Steel
Finish – Galvanised Wire Core with Green PVC Coating
Chicken wire netting is made by constructing it in a distinctive yet effective hexagonal pattern to have a strong, reinforced frame. At the same time it is also long lasting and can be easily manipulated into the format you want it.
The hexagonal mesh shape also means it can prevent larger garden animals such as chickens, rabbits and cats from getting through certain gaps or areas that require protection or are out of bounds. Please note that this mesh is not welded mesh, which we also sell in galvanised steel through our welded mesh section.

FAQs About This Product
Is PVC Coated Chicken Wire Better?
Whether PVC coated chicken wire is better than uncoated chicken wire depends on the specific application and environmental conditions.
As explained, the PVC coated chicken wire has a layer of PVC plastic over the galvanised steel wire. This coating provides additional protection against corrosion, rust, and weathering. The PVC coating also adds an extra layer of durability, making the wire more resistant to damage and wear and tear.
The upshot of this is that when used in environments with high moisture, saltwater, or other corrosive substances, PVC coated chicken wire can provide better protection and last longer than uncoated chicken wire. It is also a better option for outdoor applications or in areas with frequent exposure to the elements. That is why is has become such a popular garden mesh.
However, galvanised steel chicken wire remains the more popular options in general as it too offers good resistance to corrosion, but at a slightly lower cost point. PVC coated wire mesh can be harder to work with as the coating makes it a little stiffer. Additionally, the coating may be overkill for certain applications where there is minimal exposure to corrosive substances or weathering.
Does PVC Coated Wire Last Longer?
Yes, PVC coated wire can last longer than uncoated wire in certain conditions. The PVC coating provides an additional layer of protection that can help to prevent rust, corrosion, and damage from exposure to the elements.
The lifespan of PVC coated wire will depend on a variety of factors, including the quality of the coating, the thickness of the wire, and the conditions in which it is used. In general, PVC coated wire can be expected to last longer than uncoated wire in conditions where corrosion and exposure to the elements are a concern.
Can I Cut Coated Chicken Mesh?
Yes, it is possible to cut PVC coated chicken wire. However, cutting PVC coated chicken wire can be more difficult than cutting regular chicken wire due to the PVC coating on the wire. The PVC coating makes the wire thicker and harder to cut with standard wire cutters.
To cut PVC coated chicken wire, you can use heavy-duty wire cutters or tin snips. You may need to apply more force than usual to make a clean cut through the wire. Be sure to cut along the centre of the aperture as much as you can. This will prevent sharp edges.
Additionally, we would advocated that you wear protective gloves and eye goggles while cutting PVC coated chicken wire to prevent injury.
We recently published a detailed guide on how to build a chicken coop using chicken wire which will tell you everything that you need to know to be able build your own home for your chickens.
