Description
Stainless Steel 304 Grade Woven Wire Mesh
The Mesh Company woven wire gauze in Grade 304 stainless steel is the most popular woven wire where strength and durability are of prime importance. Suitable for industrial, agricultural and commercial applications, it is also frequently used in the food industry. There are a number of other applications where stainless-steel wire gauze can be used effectively, including fencing, guards, enclosures, and security grill panels. It is also used by artists to create sculptures, by archaeologists to demarcate working areas, in gardening and horticulture, and as screens and cages to protect birds and other animals from predators or escape.
Stainless Steel Wire Mesh
Stainless Steel gives a smooth and long lasting finish to any mesh panel and our 1 metre wide product is available in a variety of metre lengths. Simply increase the length required by selecting the quantity in metres in the box above. More rigid specifications may be shipped as flat mesh panels.
The Mesh Company woven stainless steel mesh offers a high level of protection against corrosion. Stainless steel is an alloy which is highly resistant to rusting and is therefore longer lasting than most other galvanized or PVC coated wire mesh types.
304 Grade
Below is a quick breakdown of the key characteristics of this type of woven stainless steel mesh:
- Bending & Forming – Good. You could bend this mesh by hand and it would retain its shape
- Corrosion Resistance – Very good. 304 grade stainless steel offers good resistance to many corrosive elements, however 316 is preferable for marine and aquatic applications
- Heat Resistance – Good. 304 grade stainless steel offers a good level of resistance to heat
- Machinability – Good. Mild steel is the metal choice for many forms of machining and grinding, but stainless steel can also offer good results
- Welding – Very good. You could easily weld with this mesh to suit your requirements
- Painting – Poor. We suggest that a mild steel product is used when a layer of paint needs to be applied. Galvanised and stainless steel will not take paint
SS304 is a non-magnetic stainless steel grade. Magnets will not stick to this grade of metal. In industry, this is the most common stainless steel grade. A huge variety of applications are possible with this product.
SS304 also has outstanding forming and welding characteristics.
This grade of stainless steel is austenitic. This means that when it is cool the iron element remains in the form of austenite (gamma iron). This is a phase of iron that is nonmagnetic.
Above all, 304 grade stainless steel is long lasting in almost all environments. For instance, this mesh would last for upwards of 20 years if used for standard internal applications.
Wait!! Before you order your mesh please first check out our clearance listing which is where we put all of our over-run bargain rolls at reduced prices. You never know, you might find just the roll that you need for your purposes.
We also offer a massive range of 304 stainless steel perforated metal sheet options from immediate stock. In order to produce stainless steel perforated metal sheet, flat sheet metal is punched with round or square holes. Perforated sheets are commonly often used in applications where the passing of air is required. Because the holes are punched, it is possible to have a far stronger finished metal product than it would be for the equivalent thickness in woven or welded mesh.
The Mesh Company has an enormous range of wire mesh products. We truly are an industry leader among suppliers of weld mesh and woven wire materials. With the capabilities we have in-house, we can provide virtually anything you require. Chicken wire, insect meshing and rodent mesh materials are also available in large stock quantities at bargain prices.
Stainless Steel 304 Grade Woven Wire Mesh Specification
The fine wire cloth has holes as small as 0.026mm and the heavy meshes may have holes as large as 10mm. Wire diameter starts from as small as 0.025mm and goes up to 1.6mm+.
Please take care and note the hole size and the wire diameter when selecting your specification. The huge number of different specifications of gauze vary enormously, which means they can be easily adapted in terms of their potential application. Very small holes are typically used for filtration, larger holes tend to come with thicker wire, and are used for more robust applications like rodent proofing.
Having no cracks or pores to harbour dirt or bacteria, the smooth surface of stainless steel gives it excellent hygiene properties, making it ideal to be used in the food and catering industry, as well as the health services. The mechanical resistance of stainless steel makes it durable, prevents scratching and other damage. This provides an aesthetically attractive appearance and gives it low maintenance properties. If you would like any advice about the specification you should use for your application, please get in touch with our sales team.
Stainless Steel for Corrosion Resistance:
Our stainless steel wire contains at least 16% chromium which makes it extremely resistant to corrosion.
Grade | Chromium | Nickel | Molybdenum |
304 Stainless | 18% | 8% | 2% |
